This is a little bit of “graffiti” I did back about 6 years ago in high school. I never thought I’d be posting high school art, but this counts among the stuff I’m less embarrassed of.
I was reminded of this because I was just messaged on my flickr from some girl who apparently had been trying to reach me on my ancient deviantArt, which I have not used in a long time for obvious reasons. I originally made this stencil to print onto a t-shirt for a girl I was foolishly heartbroken over for 3+ years. It’s silly that I always try to win girls over via craft. Anyways, I offered to make more shirts for people for a while, but haven’t for many years. But I just now realized that the deviantArt account is flooded with messages begging to buy one. It’s funny to think that the peak of my artistic marketability is high school fan art.
As for the photo, the image was spray painted on a concrete barrier in the woods next to the house where I lived in NC. I have some fond memories there because it stretched the small expanse between my house and my school. Even though the distance was short, the area was so dense with thorns and burs I would get home neither quickly or without some degree of bleeding. Also, There was a beaver’s den there in the creek that I was fond of, although I never saw the beavers themselves. I put Totoro there as a little symbolic protector forest spirit, but sadly, tractors and bulldozers have ripped their way through in the past year, and the expanse is now a smooth, newly paved road.
